Application Process
Interested in being a part of IiA? Follow these steps below to join us for the 2022 cohort!
What do you need to do to apply? It’s pretty simple: let us know who you are, what you’re passionate about, and whether or not you have a team. Once we have your application, we’ll invite you to a kick-off meeting with the IiA team to learn more about what you’re hoping to work on. We’ve designed this application to be simple, straightforward and take less than 15 minutes to complete.

Frequently Asked Questions
DO I NEED A TEAM TO APPLY? No, please feel free to apply as an individual! While Innovation in Action is best experienced as a team, we know building a team this year is difficult. So we will help you build your team throughout sessions in December and January.
WHEN ARE APPLICATIONS DUE? Applications will open in late September, and the application deadline will be October 19, 2022. All applications will be reviewed for adherence to eligibility requirements. If the deadline has passed and you’re still interested in participating, please get in touch with Erin Moore (mooerin@umich.edu)
DO I NEED TO HAVE A FULLY-DEVELOPED PROJECT OR IDEA BEFORE APPLYING? No, not at all! You’re welcome to bring a project from a class or student org into Innovation in Action, but it’s absolutely not required. We ask that you identify a challenge area you’re interested in focusing on aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and we’ll walk you through the process of deeply understanding that challenge.

Finding Teammates
In order to ensure you can approach your challenge with a diverse set of perspectives, experiences, and expertise, we ask that participants build a team of at least two students. Don’t worry, you can apply with or without a team – we got your back! Here are a few ways to engage with other applicants interested in building a team:
Attend an Information + Team Building Session (RSVP HERE):
- Monday, October 3rd from 11am -12:30pm (Virtual, RSVP for Link)
- Thursday, October 6th from 4pm – 5:30pm (UMSI Engagement Center)
Attend an Extended Team Building Session (RSVP HERE):
- Thursday, October 27th from 5pm – 6pm (Virtual, RSVP for Link)
- Tuesday, November 1st from 2pm – 3pm (Virtual, RSVP for Link)
Contribute to the online Team Building Forum:
Join the IiA Team Building Forum to post about what you’re passionate about working on and look for others with similar interests.
Once your team is assembled, be sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
